The incredible epidemic of dogs being given up by their "humans" continues. Jasmine is the latest victim of the
epidemic. I received a call a couple of weeks ago from a woman who said she was going through a divorce, was losing
her house and "just couldn't deal with the dog anymore."  For the first couple of minutes of our conversation, she kept
referring to Jasmine as "the dog."  I finally asked, "What is your dog's name." She told me
, "Jasmine" and I told her I
would take Jasmine. I asked her a few more questions about Jasmine regarding her age (she's 7), her disposition (she's
very sweet), if she was spayed and up to date on her vaccination
s (she isn't spayed or up to date). Then I asked her if
she had any medical issues or problems. The woman replied, "No." Well, it turns out Jasmine was heartworm positive
and spent six days at my vet being treated. When I was finally able to bring Jasmine home, I was pleasantly surprised
to find out this little girl is such a sweetie. The picture above was taken
her first day here at the rescue. She was still
getting used to her new surroundings, all of her new "brothers & sisters" and some strange guy sticking a camera in
her face.
It only took a couple of days for Jasmine's happy & sweet personality to come out. Though I still have to keep
her as quiet as possible for a few more weeks because of the heartworm, she has adjusted very well to her new home
and likes to join in on all the antics with her rescue brothers & sisters. Jasmine should be able to get spayed in a few
weeks then she'll be all set to spend the rest of her life here where she'll run & play & wrestle with the other dogs!

Jasmine is just one of many older "give ups" I've recently taken in. Jasmine joins Pepper, Angel & Frances (sisters),
Cooper, Lady and Dolly.

My first reaction (internally) when someone tells me they want to give up their older dog is always the same, "How
can someone give up their dog after so many years?"  I don't ask that question anymore when someone calls to give up
their dog. I just make arrangements to meet the person and pick up their dog. And though some days are very long
and money is usually tight, I am thankful I'm able to give these beautiful animals a safe & sound place where they
happily and playfully live their lives.
